Healthy Feet, Happy Kids!
Your child’s feet do a lot of growing – and caring for them early sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy movement.
Here are some simple tips from our podiatry team:
Check shoe fit regularly – Children’s feet can grow up to two sizes in a year. Make sure there’s a thumb’s width of space at the front of their shoes.
Choose supportive footwear – Flexible soles, secure fastenings, and good heel support help little feet develop correctly.
Trim nails carefully – Cut toenails straight across (not down the sides) and keep them short but not too short. This helps prevent ingrown nails and discomfort. Use small nail scissors or clippers, and file off any sharp edges.
Watch for warning signs – Limping, uneven shoe wear, frequent tripping, or complaints of foot/leg pain warrant a professional check.
Regular podiatry checks – A quick assessment can catch issues early and give you peace of mind.
